FA charge Chelsea's Mudryk with doping offences

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk faces potential disciplinary action after being charged by the Football Association (FA) for breaching anti-doping regulations concerning his "whereabouts" information.

The FA confirmed the charge on Thursday, stating that Mudryk is alleged to have committed three separate breaches of Regulation 30 within a rolling 12-month period. These breaches relate specifically to failures in providing accurate and up-to-date whereabouts information required under the FA's Anti-Doping Programme.

The "whereabouts" system is a crucial component of anti-doping efforts. Registered players must specify one hour each day, 365 days a year, where they will be available and accessible for no-notice out-of-competition testing. They must also provide details of their overnight residence, training locations, and competition schedules. Missing three tests within a 12-month window constitutes a violation equivalent to a failed test.

According to reports, the alleged failures occurred during the 2024/25 season. Mudryk now has until Tuesday, June 24th, 2025, to formally respond to the charge.

Chelsea FC acknowledged the charge in a brief statement, confirming Mudryk had been charged and indicating the player would be cooperating fully with the FA's investigation. The club refrained from further comment while the process is ongoing.

The Ukrainian international, a high-profile £62 million signing from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023, has yet to comment publicly on the charge. If found guilty of three whereabouts failures, Mudryk could face a significant ban from football, potentially lasting up to two years, although mitigating factors can reduce the sanction.

This charge represents a significant off-field concern for both the 23-year-old player and Chelsea as they prepare for the new season under manager Enrico Maresca. The FA's disciplinary process will now follow its course, determining whether Mudryk has a case to answer and what potential consequences he may face. The football world awaits his formal response and the subsequent findings.
