Barcelona La Masia wonderkid Lamine Yamal has revealed who he would vote for in the upcoming 2025 Ballon d'Or. The 17-year-old is one of the favorites on the list according to Score 90 and the bookmakers, ranking second behind the new favorite, Ousmane Dembélé.
Due to this, many people are saying that the Nations League semi-final between France and Spain might determine the winner of the Ballon d'Or. Ousmane Dembélé plays for France, while Lamine Yamal represents Spain.
However, speaking to El Larguero before the match, Yamal noted that his focus was not on personal achievements but rather on team success. According to him, the award would come in its own time. When asked who he would vote for in the Ballon d'Or, he revealed he would vote for the best player of the year. Though he refused to reveal the person. In the interview, as posted by FCB Live, he said:
"Everyone sees it their own way. I’m hoping we win on Thursday. But whether we win or not, I’d vote for the best player of the year. Because if Thursday doesn’t go the way I want—or Dembele wants—then what? You’re voting for someone else who plays on Sunday?"
He noted that although one game can't decide the Ballon d'Or winner, if people wanted them to battle it out in the nations league he was more than ready.
He also expressed his ambition to win the Champions League and the World Cup, saying he was ready to give it his all next season with more goals and assists.
Lamine Yamal contributed significantly to Barcelona’s domestic treble-winning season, which included the Copa del Rey, Supercopa de España, and La Liga title. However, he was unable to win the UEFA Champions League—unlike Ousmane Dembélé, who won Ligue 1, the French Cup, and was a major contributor to PSG’s UCL triumph with two assists in the final.
