Jobe Bellingham has agreed to join Borussia Dortmund after recently helping Sunderland gain promotion to the Premier League. According to an exclusive report by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old midfielder will be making the move to Germany in a deal worth €33 million as a fixed fee, with an additional €5 million in add-ons. Sunderland will also retain a 15% sell-on clause.
The 19 year old versatile midfielder is following in the footsteps of his older brother, Jude Bellingham, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Birmingham City in 2020 before moving to Real Madrid for €100 million in 2023. Jobe also won the Championship Young Player of the Year award, just like his brother Jude. Jude is now ranked among the top ten midfielders in the world, even finishing third in last year’s Ballon d'Or.
While some have questioned Jobe’s move away from the Premier League — suggesting it could potentially hinder his development as a promising talent — others have shown strong support. Bellingham can play as a CDM or even as a CAM, though at Sunderland, he was mostly deployed in a defensive role.
Also following his brother’s path to BVB, some are concerned that Jobe might forever be in the shadow of Jude and only be known as “Jude’s brother.” But the truth is, he is Jude’s brother, and that will always be a part of his story — especially since he received a lot of PR not just for his talent, but also because of the family name.
However, he is actually a good midfielder. And who knows? If things go well at Dortmund, and if he keeps working hard, the sky’s the limit. Maybe someday, he too will find himself walking through the doors of the Santiago Bernabeu. And then he would probably not be known as just Jude's younger brother anymore but as Jobe Bellingham .
