Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum Show Interest In NPP Presidential Race He Has Join The Race Now
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the sitting Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe and a former Minister of Education, has officially announced his bid to become the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). His declaration signals the beginning of what is expected to be an intense contest within the party for leadership ahead of the 2028 national elections.
The announcement came during a live national broadcast on the evening of Wednesday, June 18, 2025, where Dr. Adutwum affirmed his readiness to step forward and serve both his party and the nation at a higher level. He confirmed that he would pick up the nomination forms as soon as the party opens the application window for aspirants.
“When the time comes, I will pick up the nomination forms and formally enter the presidential race. I am prepared and eager to contribute to our nation’s progress,” he said during his televised address.
Education Legacy as a Foundation
Dr. Adutwum reflected on his achievements as Education Minister, emphasizing the progress made under his leadership. He believes that the respect and trust earned during his time in office have laid a solid foundation for his presidential campaign.
“I remain grateful for the confidence Ghanaians placed in me during my time as Minister. I am optimistic that the same support will propel us through the primaries and eventually to national victory in 2028,” he noted.
He also took a moment to express his appreciation to former President Nana Akufo-Addo for giving him the opportunity to serve in his administration. Dr. Adutwum described his cabinet role as a pivotal learning moment that has strengthened his resolve to bring about meaningful change.
“I thank President Akufo-Addo for the platform he gave me to contribute to our nation. That experience has only sharpened my vision and commitment to lead Ghana into a brighter future,” he added.
Committing to Progressive and Inclusive Leadership
Promising to offer a transformative brand of leadership if elected, Dr. Adutwum pledged to build upon the work of past governments while introducing innovative ideas to accelerate national development. He stated that his leadership would be centered on progress, accountability, and inclusive governance.
“My leadership will not be about starting from scratch but about continuity with improvement,” he said. “We will drive Ghana forward with unity and purpose.”
He also emphasized the need for party unity during the primaries, urging members to rally behind the process in a spirit of fairness and respect.
A Crowded Field of Hopefuls
With his announcement, Dr. Adutwum joins a growing list of NPP stalwarts vying for the party's top spot. Notable among them are Kennedy Agyapong and Bryan Acheampong, both of whom have declared their intentions to run.
As the NPP gears up for its internal elections, attention now turns to how each contender will define their vision—not just for party renewal, but for the direction of Ghana itself.
