Amorim is really eager to team up with Viktor Gyokeres now that the promise he made has been fulfilled. But, you know, there are some hiccups with the Portuguese club and the price they’re asking for him.

Then there’s Geovany Quenda, another player from Sporting that Amorim had his eye on for Old Trafford. Unfortunately, Ineos couldn’t seal the deal for this 18-year-old wonder. Chelsea swooped in and snagged him with a hefty £42 million agreement for him to join in 2026.

United saw Quenda as the perfect fit for Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 setup, but now Ineos is left scrambling for alternatives. Honestly, the recruitment team at Old Trafford might kick themselves for not chasing after him harder, especially after catching his recent performance on the international stage. Quenda got called up to Portugal’s Under-21 squad this summer and even started in their 0-0 draw against France’s Under-21s on Wednesday night.

Amorim had a tough time during his first season trying to get United’s squad to adjust to his style and that three-at-the-back formation. A big part of the challenge was that there were no specialist wing-backs when he came on board. He actually asked for a left wing-back after just one match in charge!

In January, they brought in Patrick Dorgu for £31.5 million to help out on that left side, and you know what? The 20-year-old has really impressed during his first six months at the club. But on the right side? They’re still searching for a replacement after losing out on Quenda.

The first team at United has a long way to go, but there’s been some positive movement, too. They’ve been working on bringing in some promising young talent, with Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi-Martin already making their mark at the senior level.

Now, there’s chatter coming out of Spain that Manchester United is in ‘pole position’—which honestly sounds a bit funny because we’re really talking about podium spots here—to sign Christian Kofane from Albacete Balompie, competing with AS Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen.

According to journalist Sebastien Vidal on X (you know, formerly Twitter), United is on the lookout for targets to replace Onana. He’s pulling in around £200,000 a week, but this past season has been pretty mediocre, and he’s faced a lot of criticism due to some pretty glaring mistakes.

And speaking of goalkeepers, they’ve got their eyes on Barcelona’s Ter Stegen. The arrival of Espanyol’s Joan Garcia is set to be announced soon, which might just push the 33-year-old ‘world-class’ keeper further down the line at Camp Nou. Amorim has really pushed for an upgrade in the goalkeeping department, especially since backup Altay Bayindir hasn’t exactly wowed anyone during his time at Old Trafford. With some interest brewing from other clubs, it’s possible that the Turkish player might be on his way out as well.
