Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has categorically denied allegations that his administration disburses N2 billion monthly to his political mentor and the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The governor refuted the claim, calling it unfounded, misleading, and rooted in political mischief.
The accusation, made by former Secretary to the State Government, Baffa Bichi, was dismissed by Governor Yusuf during an address at the Government House on Sunday. Speaking to 484 local government councillors from across Kano, Yusuf described Bichi as a “shameless liar,” and accused him of engaging in smear tactics born out of frustration and personal failure.
“There is absolutely no truth to the allegation that Senator Kwankwaso receives any financial benefits from the Kano State Government,” Yusuf asserted. “Kwankwaso is a man of integrity, who has neither demanded nor received a single kobo from our administration. He has no involvement in the state’s finances.”
The governor suggested that Bichi’s statements were a result of bitterness after being dismissed from office due to poor performance. He pointed out that Bichi, during his time in government, never raised any concerns about alleged mismanagement or misuse of funds, only to make baseless claims now that he’s out of office.
Yusuf also reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to Kwankwaso, saying that the former governor's political guidance remains a pillar of his leadership. “Wherever Kwankwaso leads politically, I will follow. His legacy and vision for Kano continue to guide our decisions,” Yusuf stated.
The governor urged citizens to disregard what he referred to as “the distractions of disgruntled politicians” who, according to him, have lost their relevance and are seeking attention. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to honest leadership, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and progress for the people of Kano State.
Yusuf concluded by calling on the public to stay focused on the work of governance and to trust in his leadership to deliver the dividends of democracy without compromise or influence from any political figure.
