A video currently circulating across social media platforms has stirred tension and sparked widespread speculation, alleging that the Chief of Army Staff was ambushed in Bawku. The Ghana Armed Forces, however, have swiftly refuted these claims, labelling the video and its accompanying narrative as completely false and misleading. According to an official statement released by the Armed Forces, the Chief of Army Staff was never attacked, and the video being shared has nothing to do with any security incident involving him.

The footage, which appears to show an armoured convoy under fire, was taken out of context and manipulated to suggest that it portrayed a recent attack in the Bawku area. This misinformation campaign, authorities say, was orchestrated with the intent to incite fear and provoke unnecessary panic among the public. The Armed Forces expressed serious concern over the deliberate twisting of facts and have assured citizens that those behind this calculated attempt to destabilise peace will be traced and brought to justice.

Security in Bawku remains a sensitive issue due to ongoing ethnic and political tensions in the area. However, the Armed Forces emphasised that all operations in the region are controlled and carried out with the highest level of professionalism. The Chief of Army Staff, contrary to the claims, was safely conducting an operational visit and did not encounter any hostilities. The Ghana Armed Forces commended the people of Bawku for their cooperation and advised them not to fall prey to misinformation designed to breed chaos.

The rise in fake news, particularly surrounding military operations, poses a real danger to national peace and public trust. In this digital age, where news spreads like wildfire, false reports can spark unintended consequences, including civil unrest. The Armed Forces have urged all citizens to be vigilant, responsible, and discerning when consuming and sharing content on social media. They encouraged individuals to verify information from credible sources and not allow themselves to be used as tools by those with ulterior motives.

Authorities also reiterated that investigations are underway to uncover the origin of the misleading video. Anyone found to be involved in its creation or circulation, with intent to deceive the public, will face the full rigour of the law. The military remains committed to maintaining peace and stability in Bawku and across the country and will not tolerate any actions aimed at undermining their efforts.

The Armed Forces concluded by calling on the media and the general public to support efforts at preserving national unity and to refrain from publishing unverified reports that could fuel tension. As peacekeepers and defenders of the nation, the military will continue to carry out its constitutional duties without fear or favour, and with the utmost regard for the safety and security of all citizens.
