Leeds and Burnley Officially Promoted to the Premier League from the Championship
Leeds United and Burnley have officially secured promotion to the Premier League for the 2025/26 season after an impressive campaign in the Championship.
Leeds sealed their return to the top flight in emphatic fashion with a dominant 6-0 victory over Stoke City at Elland Road. The win not only confirmed their promotion but also sent a strong message about their readiness to compete among England’s elite once again. On the same day, Burnley booked their Premier League ticket with a hard-fought 2-1 win over fellow promotion hopefuls Sheffield United.
Both Leeds and Burnley now sit at the top of the Championship table with 94 points each, though Leeds edge Burnley on goal difference, thanks to their more prolific attack.
This promotion marks a triumphant return for Leeds, who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2022/2023 season. Under the guidance of head coach Daniel Farke—appointed in July 2023 on a four-year contract following the club’s relegation—Leeds has shown determination, discipline, and tactical maturity throughout the season. Farke, a proven winner in the Championship from his time with Norwich City, has once again demonstrated his ability to build a promotion-winning side.
A standout performer in Leeds’ final push was striker Joel Piroe, who delivered an extraordinary performance against Stoke City. Piroe scored four goals in the 6th, 8th, 20th, and 41st minutes and earned a perfect 10 rating on Sofascore—a rare feat in football. He was substituted in the 66th minute for Patrick Bamford but had already done enough to secure the Man of the Match award. His clinical finishing and intelligent movement were central to Leeds’ explosive attack.
Both clubs have had exceptional seasons, though their approaches have differed. Leeds, known for their attacking flair, have scored 89 goals while conceding just 29 in 44 matches. Burnley, on the other hand, have built their success on defensive solidity, scoring fewer goals (61) but conceding the least in the league—just 15.
What’s Next for Leeds and Burnley?
Returning to the Premier League is a major achievement, but survival in the top flight is an entirely different challenge. Both clubs are well aware of the step up in competition and will need to reinforce their squads, fine-tune their strategies, and prepare mentally for what lies ahead.
Leeds and Burnley are no strangers to the Premier League, having competed in it in recent years. However, the margins between survival and relegation can be razor-thin. Recruitment, squad depth, and consistency will be critical factors as they gear up for the 2025/26 campaign.
Joel Piroe, in particular, will be one to watch. Fans, critics, and Premier League opponents alike will be eager to see if he can replicate his Championship form on the bigger stage. With his current momentum, he could play a key role in Leeds’ fight for survival and success next season.
As pre-season preparations begin, all eyes will be on how Leeds and Burnley strengthen and adapt. For now, though, both clubs—and their fans—can celebrate a hard-earned and well-deserved return to the Premier League.
