Police are looking for the driver of the bus whose baby was run over by train in Accra
Ghana Police are searching fora driver whose car was involved in a train collision in Accra early Thursday, May 25, 2023.
This was cited in a report by Citinewsroom.com, based in Accra. According to the report, the regional manager of the Accra branch of the Ghana Railway Authority, Nicholas Boakye Sarpong, said the driver of the bus was allegedly violating some rules regardingthe use of the railway.
In an interview with the media,the district chief said thatcitizens should prioritize their safety by staying away from therailway tracks. "There are rulesthat you have to stop, you listen, you look, and you have to pass. This has been around for a long time and not even in trafficsafety or any manual we have on the entry of traffic way". Inline with the above, Nicholas Boakye Sarpong made it clearthat the driver did not followthe road safety rules and thepolice opened an investigation into the incident.
"So he [the taxi driver] broke the rules, the passerby tried to stop him, but he continued and that led to this. He broke the rules and they [the police] are looking for him to arrest him. The issue has been reported to the police, everything is with the police as we speak and theinvestigation is ongoing,” notedGhana Railway Authority Accra Branch Regional ManagerNicholas Boakye-Sarpong. A taxi driver had a lucky escape in the early hours of Thursday, May 25, 2023, when a train from Tema bound for Accra ran into his car at Alajo in Accra.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver tried to cross the railway track at high speed but gotstuck, which caused the oncoming train to collide with the car and throw it out of the way. The driver's side of the taxi was badly damaged, leaving bystanders in shock.
Video of the incident captured bystanders helping the driver out of the taxi and urging him to report the incident to police. The driver appeared shaken from the accident as he unloaded his belongings from the vehicle.
"Hold your things, let's go to the police station. Strange things are happening in this world; the train completely damaged the car,” passers-by heard.
Efforts to get a statement from the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) have so far been unsuccessful.
