The Supreme Court called Dr. Michael Kpessa-Whyte for offensive comments 


The Supreme Court called Dr.
Michael Kpessa-Whyte, a seniorlecturer at the University of Ghana.

The court asked him to show good reason that he should not be held in contempt for allegedly insulting the highest court of the country and callingit a "dumb court". 

Dr Kpessa-Whyte made a
controversial statement in a recent Twitter post where he expressed his belief that the Supreme Court is being turnedinto a "dumb court". Also, he criticized the current situation in Ghana. court, accusing him of being part of politics and lack of intelligence. The tweet came shortly after the Supreme Court ruled that the name of NDC MP James Gyakye Quayson should be removed from the parliamentary register due to procedural irregularities during his nomination and election in 2020.

Following the tweet, Dr Kpessa-Whyte received questions about his statement, particularly regarding Ghana's justice system. He explainedthat his tweet did not specifically refer to the justice system in Ghana but it affects what is happening all over the world, including those in the United States.

As a result of his speech, the High Court summoned DrKpessa-Whyte, starting a process that required him to give a proper explanation for his defamatory statement.
