Why Chelsea should be watchful of massive Ousmane Dembele and Milan Skriniar transfers

According to reports, both Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele and Inter Milan's Milan Skriniar could be the club's first signings under Todd Boehly.

But how true are these rumours, and could the players in question be using the Blues to their advantage? Well, Get French Football News has reported that Chelsea has swooped in with their own contract offer for the 25-year-old winger, who is set to become a free agent on Friday.

It is important to remember that Dembele's preference is to remain at the Camp Nou, and when this is combined with the fact that his agent Moussa Sissoko is in renewed contract talks with the Barcelona hierarchy, these new updates and their timing begin to look suspicious. The inclusion of Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Liverpool into the Dembele equation suggests that his agent Sissoko may be using the names of all interested parties to ensure that Barcelona caves in and renews his client's contract, but only on the improved terms that have been discussed.

Of course, Chelsea could still sign the Thomas Tuchel favorite this summer, especially if he does indeed become a free agent at the start of July but Any suggestion that the Blues are closing in on Barcelona's number 7 is incorrect. 'As it stands, Chelsea have yet to make an offer to Dembele,' tweeted Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian. The priority is to sort Sterling and Ake. Dembele has yet to make a final decision on his future at Barcelona, but it appears unlikely that he will stay. Xavi is determined to keep him.'

A similar story can be told about defensive target Milan Skriniar, who only recently entered the picture after certain Italian news outlets reported that Chelsea were'serious' about competing with Paris Saint-Germain for the signing of Inter Milan star Skriniar, who is seen as a viable alternative to Matthijs de Ligt.

PSG and Inter have been in talks about the 27-year-old for some time, and no offer has yet reached the £68 million asking price that the Serie A club has set for their star defender.

So how could the Inter hierarchy possibly compel the Parisians to pay the full price for the Slovakian? Consider adding Chelsea's name to the mix. Todd Boehly is considering a move for Antonio Conte's favorite, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, especially if Juventus does not lower their exorbitant demands for De Ligt.

Fast forward a few hours, and the tactic of bringing Chelsea's name into the mix appears to have worked, with Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that the current Ligue 1 champions are now willing to meet the asking price.

These are two scenarios in which Chelsea could end up signing the two aforementioned targets, but a lot would have to happen for this to happen, with both players' and their respective camps' priorities being elsewhere. Dembele will remain in Barcelona, while Skriniar will relocate to Paris.
