Michael Owen answers Lionel Messi backing up his Liverpool Champions League guarantee
Previous Liverpool star Michael Owen has shared a tweet from Lionel Messi to back up his strong case that Jurgen Klopp's side were the best group in Europe this year
Michael Owen has hit back at fans who ridiculed him for demanding that Liverpool were the "best group in Europe" after their Champions League rout by sharing a comparable tweet from Lionel Messi.
The previous Reds and Manchester United striker was savaged by fans online at the end of the week after he strongly asserted that the Reds were as yet the best group in Europe - despite the fact that they were beaten 1-0 by Real Madrid in the European Cup last in Paris.
Talking on BT Sport after Saturday night's conclusive, Owen said: "Genuine Madrid have past them today, yet you know as well as anybody that an oddball game is an oddball game. I actually think [Liverpool are] the absolute most fearsome group in Europe and they've not got any of the large two prizes to show for it, that will be the greatest pill to swallow."
In any case, only days in the wake of coming in for untold stick because of his disputable case, Owen has hit back at his faultfinders by sharing a few comparative remarks from Messi on his web-based entertainment account.
The Paris Saint-Germain star said: "The best group doesn't necessarily win. Genuine Madrid weren't the most ideal group in Europe this season, without assuming any praise from them, despite the fact that they are the Champions League victors." Owen answered by statement tweeting Messi's remarks with the message: "And I got disparaged for saying this. End of conversation".
Jurgen Klopp's side headed into the last fortnight of the time with a possibility securing a phenomenal fourfold of prizes. At last however, the Reds couldn't add to the Carabao Cup and FA Cup prizes that they fixed before in the season.
Jordan told talkSPORT: "I believe they're wild, they're electric, they're practically obvious. Liverpool are a preferred side over Real Madrid, I couldn't care less about individual games. I mean Chelsea beat Barcelona in the semi last of the Champions League when it was generally acknowledged that Barcelona were a superior side. A singular game means a group is worse.
"I think Liverpool from each viewpoint, from the goalkeeper to their middle forward, are a superior side. They're more forceful, they're simpler on the eye and they're more wild.
As far as I might be concerned, there is something about Liverpool, not on the grounds that they're an English club since I love Liverpool football club. I trust to me they're a preferable group over Real Madrid."
