OVER 1,500 BAGS OF FERTILISER DISTRIBUTED TO FARMERS IN NKORANZA NORTH

The Nkoranza North District Department of Agriculture in the Bono East Region has distributed fertiliser to registered farmers to boost crop production.

The exercise, held on 24th August 2026 at the Department of Agriculture in Busunya, was led by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Effah Patrick (Patoo), and supervised by officers of the Department of Agriculture to ensure the inputs reached the intended beneficiaries.

According to the DCE, the intervention is aimed at supporting farmers with essential agricultural inputs to enhance their farming activities.

The support forms part of the Department of Agriculture's ongoing commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and empowering local farmers with the tools and resources needed to enhance their work on the field.

"This intervention is expected to contribute to improved crop yields, food production, and the livelihoods of farmers within the District," Hon. Patoo stated.

Addressing the gathering, the DCE emphasized that providing farmers with the necessary inputs is not only aimed at increasing crop production but also at improving food security and household incomes across the district.

Beneficiaries went through verification and registration processes conducted by Agricultural Extension Officers before receiving their allocations.

Speaking to Fabea FM's Apiah-Kubi, Hon. Patoo disclosed that more than 1,500 bags of fertiliser were distributed to the first batch of registered farmers.

He said the exercise demonstrates the commitment of President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama's administration to improving agricultural production under the government's Agriculture Transformation agenda.

"The free fertilisers are aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and improving food security," he said, adding that the intervention is not politicised but reflects the government's commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring sustainable agricultural development. Farmers have always been struggling to get access to farming inputs but now that this intervention is in place, it will ease the burden on farmers. 

He noted that agriculture remains the backbone of the national economy and reiterated the government's commitment to empowering farmers to increase productivity, improve incomes, and strengthen the agricultural value chain. The government is very well focused on agriculture and wants to encourage most of the youth to go into farming, partake in agriculture activities. 

The initiative is also expected to have a long-term social impact by encouraging the transfer of practical farming knowledge and skills to younger generations. According to the Department of Agriculture, exposing young people to agriculture and supporting farming activities will help nurture responsible, productive, and self-reliant citizens.

He again said that by equipping farmers with these essential resources, the Department of Agriculture is enabling them to cultivate nutritious food for homes and communities, generate small-scale income to support their families, and contribute meaningfully to the local economy.

Beneficiary farmers expressed appreciation to the District Chief Executive and the Agriculture Department for the timely intervention, describing the support as a major relief, especially during a period of rising farming costs.

The Department of Agriculture reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with farmers and agricultural stakeholders to promote sustainable agriculture, improve productivity, and enhance the welfare of farming communities throughout the district.

Hon. Patoo encouraged beneficiary farmers to make effective use of the fertilisers to increase crop yields, while urging those yet to benefit to remain patient for the next phase of distribution.
