Nutrifoods Ghana Limited has resumed production and distribution of its Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix after receiving clearance from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).
The clearance, granted on September 12, 2025, followed a thorough evaluation of the company’s operations, which reaffirmed the safety, quality, and compliance of its products.
That familiar red tomato mix, Tasty Tom, is officially back on shelves after its manufacturer received the final all-clear from the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority (FDA). This ends months of uncertainty after the product was yanked from the market due to serious quality lapses.
Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, the producer, confirmed on Thursday that production and distribution of the Enriched Tomato Mix have resumed. The company had initially issued a precautionary recall in August 2025 for specific batches that failed to meet their-or the FDA's-high standards (Per MyJoyOnline, October 2, 2025).
But you remember the chaos: consumers were complaining about bloated pouches and cans. An FDA investigation back in August uncovered poor maintenance of critical equipment and inadequate monitoring at the Tema factory, issues that compromised the sealing mechanism and allowed contamination (Per GhanaWeb, August 3, 2025). Some even found visible mold, which is enough to turn your stomach.
And... this wasn't the first time they had issues. Nutrifoods was actually barred from manufacturing that same tomato mix back in January 2025. That double failure raised huge questions about compliance and the FDA's oversight.
Yet, after the August suspension, the company cooperated closely with the FDA for a "rigorous and constructive evaluation." They have now strengthened their process controls, including extending the incubation time for products to reinforce quality assurance at the highest level, the company claims.
The FDA’s clearance affirms that Nutrifoods’ production systems and products are now compliant with the regulatory requirements. The brand, which has been part of Ghanaian cooking for over a decade, is now eager to win back the trust it lost with that unfortunate metallic taste of fear.
