Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana might be on the move to the Turkish Süper Lig, as first reported by Yagiz Sabouncuyan, who revealed that Turkish side Trabzonspor has reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign Onana on loan. This comes after the Turkish side lost their first-choice goalkeeper and captain, Uğurcan Çakır, to Galatasaray on the last day of the European transfer window.

Galatasaray had tried to sign Senne Lammens, who was Manchester United’s first choice to strengthen their goalkeeping options, but failed, and the player instead joined Manchester United.

With the arrival of Lammens, Onana has dropped from second choice to third-choice goalkeeper after already losing his starting spot to Altay Bayındır since the beginning of the season. His relationship with Manchester United fans is also currently broken, especially after his last match against League Two side Grimsby, where he failed to prevent two goals and then conceded 11 penalties in a shootout without making a single save. However, the relationship had turned sour months earlier, dating back to Erik ten Hag’s time, with fans calling for the goalkeeper to leave United, as his errors are believed to be one of the reasons the club is struggling today.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Onana has not yet made a decision on the club he wants to join. At the start of the season, he was reportedly not inclined to leave United, stating that he wanted to stay and fight for his place. According to Buchi Laba, Onana did receive offers from Turkish clubs earlier but refused to consider them. However, with the European window closed and only the Saudi and Turkish markets still open (alongside a few smaller leagues), I think it is the right time for Onana to consider a move to Trabzonspor as the best option for his career.

I say this as a Manchester United fan: I want Onana to leave my club, but of course, I wish him the best and hope he can rediscover the form he showed at Inter.
