Nanfah Dombo, a member of the New Patriotic Party's national communications team, has condemned those politicizing the tragic helicopter crash in the Ashanti region that claimed eight lives, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
Ghanaians should view the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight public officials as a national tragedy, rather than a partisan issue in order to promote unity in the face of the grief.
Dombo emphasized that using tragedy for partisan politics is uncalled for, especially when families have lost loved ones in such a horrific incident.
He described the deaths as a profoundly painful loss, emphasizing that Ghana has suffered tremendously from this tragedy.
"No one is ever ready to receive devastating news from a uniformed state of tragedy, so we should desist from politicization and mockery," Dombo expressed.
“The grief comes to all Ghanaians, it’s not just about me, it’s not just the NDC, it’s all of us.
“This is a national tragedy, eight public officials on official duty so they
were in the service of the country and they had this tragic accident and they lost their lives.
"We wouldn't wish such a tragedy on our enemies, so I condemn the comments that followed the incident with politicization," he added.
In an exclusive interview on Fabea FM with Apiah-Kubi, Dombo noted that the helicopter was carrying prominent figures on a national assignment, making it a national tragedy rather than a partisan issue.
"This is not a moment to talk about or utter words that trigger the incident or speculate about who was supposed to be involved," he stated.
He further quoted, "When you open your mouth to talk, you tell the world who you are, and a gentleman is not known by the way he dresses but by the way he speaks."
Dombo's sentiments align with the call for unity and compassion in the wake of the tragedy.
He emphasized that leaders in the country should desist from making sensitive comments and promises when seeking power, highlighting the importance of responsible leadership and speech.
“It’s a very painful loss, Ghana has lost just a tremendous amount of this particular tragedy; I mean this is not a partisan issue, it’s a national tragedy,”
Let me send my condolences to President John Dramani Mahama and the government, the nation is mourning, the bereaved families to express my heartfelt sympathy to them all.
Nanfah Dombo further conveyed his commiserations to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), who have lost courageous personnel in the line of duty.
I want to extend my condolences to the Ghana Armed Forces who have lost very gallant soldiers in this process.
