The Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, has officially responded to the growing concerns among newly recruited teachers over prolonged salary delays and the non-issuance of Staff IDs. The issue, which has affected thousands of teachers posted in 2024, has sparked widespread frustration across the education sector.
According to the Minister, the root of the delay lies in inconsistencies between teachers’ personal records, particularly discrepancies between their SSNIT details and Ghana Card information. These errors have hindered the Controller and Accountant General’s Department from validating the affected teachers and issuing the required Staff IDs, which are necessary for salary processing.
Honourable Iddrisu acknowledged the emotional and financial strain this situation has placed on the affected teachers. He assured them that the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), SSNIT, and the National Identification Authority (NIA), is actively working to resolve the data mismatches that are holding up the process.
Further updates reveal that some teachers who submitted complete documentation have still not received their Staff IDs, while others who were issued IDs have not been paid due to the expiration of their financial clearance at the end of 2024. In response, the GES has submitted a request for a renewal of the clearance and is currently reviewing the backlog.
The Ministry has also constituted a technical committee that includes representatives of the affected teachers to ensure transparency and regular communication. This committee is expected to monitor progress and assist in resolving outstanding issues quickly.
In the meantime, teachers are encouraged to verify and update their SSNIT and Ghana Card information to support the validation process. The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the matter promptly and ensuring that no legitimate teacher is left unpaid.
This assurance offers a glimmer of hope to newly recruited teachers who continue to wait for what is rightfully due to them.
