I Will Not Contest for NPP Flagbearer – Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku

In a significant political development, energy expert and businessman Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku has officially declared that he will not be contesting for the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2028 general elections. This announcement comes as a surprise to many political observers who saw him as a potential contender in the NPP's internal race to lead the party into the next presidential election.

Poku, who had previously expressed interest in the NPP flagbearership and participated in the party’s Super Delegates Conference ahead of the 2024 elections, stated emphatically in a recent interview that he has no intention of joining the flagbearer race again.

“I will not contest for the NPP flagbearer position. I have made that decision after a lot of thought, and I believe the party must be allowed to grow with new faces and fresh energy,” he said.

His decision not to contest again is already reshaping political calculations within the NPP, as the party begins to prepare for life after the 2024 elections. Poku’s profile as a respected voice in Ghana’s energy sector and a firm advocate for good governance had made him a rising star within the party. His exit from the race potentially opens the door for new candidates and shifts the internal dynamics.

This development is especially significant considering the high stakes of the NPP’s next flagbearer contest, which will determine who leads the party into a competitive 2028 presidential election. With major keywords such as “NPP flagbearer,” “2028 elections,” and “Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku” now trending in Ghana’s political discourse, it is clear that his announcement carries weight.

Poku emphasized that his commitment to the NPP remains strong and that he will continue to support the party’s growth and vision.

“I am not leaving the party. I am only stepping away from the presidential race to make room for others,” he added.

His statement reflects a broader call for unity and rejuvenation within the party’s ranks.

Political analysts believe his move could set the tone for a new generation of leaders within the NPP and may inspire others to take a similar route of mentorship rather than leadership ambition. As the political landscape evolves, Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku’s decision may well be remembered as a pivotal moment in the NPP’s journey toward 2028.
