Accra – June 6, 2025
In a significant diplomatic milestone, Ghana and the Kingdom of Morocco have officially sealed a visa-free travel agreement, marking a transformative step in bilateral relations. The agreement, which took effect immediately following its announcement, enables Ghanaian citizens to travel to Morocco without a traditional visa, replacing it with a fast-tracked electronic travel authorization obtainable online within 24 hours.
The announcement followed high-level discussions held during a two-day official visit by Ghanaian officials to Rabat, where Ghana’s leadership met with Moroccan Foreign Minister, His Excellency Nasser Bourita. The new policy aims to facilitate smoother, more efficient travel between the two nations and reflects a growing commitment to regional cooperation on the African continent.
Government sources indicate that the policy is expected to significantly enhance trade, tourism, cultural exchange, and business collaboration. The availability of direct flights between Accra and major Moroccan cities like Casablanca and Marrakesh will likely be complemented by an increase in flight frequency to accommodate rising travel demand. Aviation and tourism stakeholders have welcomed the move, citing its potential to deepen people-to-people connections and unlock new economic opportunities.
“This is more than a visa policy — it’s a step toward pan-African unity,” one senior official noted. “African borders should not divide us, but rather serve as bridges of cooperation and growth.”
The agreement is being hailed as part of a broader continental trend toward easing travel restrictions and fostering integration among African nations, in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Similar bilateral and regional mobility initiatives are gaining traction as countries seek to stimulate intra-African trade and encourage mutual development.
As Ghanaians prepare to take advantage of the simplified travel process, authorities have promised further updates on the e-authorization system, including guidance on how to apply and eligibility requirements. Travelers are encouraged to follow official government portals for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
In a related message, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo extended warm Eid-ul-Adha greetings to Ghana’s Muslim community, urging unity, peace, and reflection during the holiday season.
This historic travel agreement not only symbolizes strengthened diplomatic ties between Ghana and Morocco but also serves as a beacon for greater mobility and solidarity across Africa.
