Arsenal are currently in talks to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as they look to fill the striker position. This move aims to secure a fit and consistent striker, which has been a long-standing need for the club. According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal with Sesko seems to be progressing well, with no cause for alarm.
However, Arsenal fans are taking the news with a pinch of salt, as Martin Zubimendi—who was supposed to sign for Arsenal from Real Sociedad—is now reportedly on Real Madrid’s radar, with the Spanish giants attempting to hijack a deal that hasn't even been finalized yet, despite a “Here we go” from Fabrizio Romano.
Arsenal are also known for pursuing players for months, often using phrases like “they admire the player,” without securing any concrete deals. That said, Sesko’s priority at the moment appears to be Arsenal. He reportedly turned down a move to the club earlier last season in order to stay at Leipzig and continue his development.
Leipzig are expected to demand around €90 million for the striker, who scored 21 goals and provided 6 assists in 45 matches this season. Sesko would be a perfect replacement for Gabriel Jesus, who has become injury-prone, as well as Kai Havertz.
Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is said to be a great admirer of Sesko’s footballing abilities and believes he would fit seamlessly into the system, potentially helping Arsenal secure their first major trophy in a long time.
Though there is some concern among fans about signing attackers from the Bundesliga—citing the failure of many such players to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League—Sesko is still viewed as the ideal candidate. Christopher Nkunku, for instance, joined Chelsea from Leipzig but is now reportedly set to leave after underwhelming performances. Similarly, Kai Havertz moved from Leverkusen to Chelsea before eventually joining Arsenal. While he has shown glimpses of brilliance, including scoring the goal that won Chelsea the Champions League, his Bundesliga form hasn’t quite translated to Premier League success.
Despite those concerns, Arsenal remain keen on signing Sesko, considering him the best fit for the centre-forward position.
