According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal between Liverpool and Florian Wirtz is currently at an advanced stage. Recall that Wirtz had made it clear he only wanted Liverpool, despite interest from Bayern Munich after Manchester City withdrew. Although reports suggest the deal is close, Liverpool have not yet finalized it, and fans are growing agitated over the delay.
However, Romano has urged patience, noting that negotiations are ongoing, with Bayer Leverkusen reportedly demanding more than Β£100 million for their star player. Liverpool are currently trying to negotiate the fee. Despite no agreement yet between Liverpool and Leverkusen, it is widely believed that Wirtzβs move to Liverpool is almost inevitable, as both parties are confident the deal will be completed. This comes after Liverpool already signed Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen by activating his Β£30 million release clause.
According to reports, Liverpool may have to include a player in the deal, resulting in a cash-plus-swap arrangement. There have been talks of Harvey Elliott or Quansah being included, as their performances have not been particularly strong this season, and they have seen limited playing time.
There have also been reports that Wirtz wants Liverpoolβs iconic No. 10 shirt, which is currently worn by Alexis Mac Allister. However, Wirtz denied the claims on his Instagram story, writing:
"Who told you I want the Number 10 shirt? I respect players. Donβt believe everything that is written."
While some believe he was addressing the Liverpool rumors, trying to clear the air before an official announcement, others speculate he may have been referring to the German national team, where he currently wears the No. 17 shirt, with Jamal Musiala wearing No. 10. However, itβs argued that if he were referring to the national team, he would likely have written the message in German.
Despite the ongoing speculation, the latest reports suggest that Liverpool and Leverkusen are making progress on the Wirtz deal, with a total package expected to exceed Β£100 million.
