Matheus Cunha is set to join Manchester United from Wolves after the latter triggered his Β£62.5 million clause, to be paid in installments.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Cunha agreed to join United from Wolves despite the club not playing any European football next season, after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.
A verbal agreement has already been reached between both parties, and the contract signing is expected to take place next weekβunless, of course, there is a change. He is set to sign a five-year contract ending in 2030, with an option to extend it to 2031. The Brazilian has been seen with RΓΊben Amorim several times during Unitedβs Premier League match against Wolves, so it isn't a surprise that he agreed to sign for United even before their Europa League loss.
What is surprising, however, is that Cunha still chose to sign despite Unitedβs lack of European football next season. He had attracted interest from several clubs. He made 33 premier League appearances scoring 15 goals and 6 assists. Moving from Wolves to Manchester United isnβt exactly an upgrade in todayβs footballing world, even though United's history speaks for itself. Still, no one cares much about history or past glory, as football is played in the present. Therefore,Matheus Cunha joining United at this time shows he believes in coach Amorim and the United project, which is set to begin next season, with several key United players expected to leave as part of the rebuild.
Cunha, known for his powerful shots from outside the box, would be a valuable addition in building the new era for United fans. This new era was promised by Amorim in a speech he gave after Unitedβs final match of the season against Aston Villa. Hopefully, Cunhaβwho has chosen to believe in the United project during a period of struggleβwill succeed at the club.
