Real Madrid have started talks to sign Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen. Huijsen has always been on their agenda, as the club had already planned to sign a centre-back this summer—especially with the ones they have being literally run into the ground.
However, the club initially saw his £50 million release clause, which could be paid in three instalments, as too expensive. Now, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Madrid are making concrete efforts to sign him, with talks ongoing with Bournemouth and the deal advancing. Huijsen himself has given priority to Real Madrid, though Chelsea and Liverpool are waiting for an opportunity in case his deal with Madrid collapses.
The 'chill guy' would play under Xabi Alonso next season, possibly pairing with Raul Ascenio and the more experienced centre-backs Antonio Rüdiger and Éder Militão when they recover.
Recall that Madrid have been run down by injuries, especially in defense, with Mendy, Militão, and particularly Rüdiger—who had been playing on an injured knee for seven months before his recent surgery.
In the game against Mallorca, Madrid had only 10 first-team players available, with the bench full of academy players. In fact, Madrid could field an entire XI of injured players.
Hopefully, Huijsen’s signing would help ease the load, especially in Madrid’s defense. The young player has been praised not only for his defensive skills but also for his offensive capabilities in the Premier League and even in Spain, where he has played alongside other young stars like Barça’s Lamine Yamal and Athletic Club’s Nico Williams.
Honestly, I think Madrid can pull off this signing. They are a club with a rich history and plenty of trophies to back it up. The fact that a season in which they won two trophies is considered their worst should tell you a lot about the standards everyone has for the club.
Despite the pressure on a young player like Huijsen, there is no doubt he would perform well, having shown how calm he is under pressure.
More details about Huijsen’s signing to follow soon.
