Manchester United coach Rúben Amorim has revealed that he is 'embarrassed' about Manchester United’s Premier League record under him. United have played 25 Premier League games under his management, winning 6, drawing 6, and losing 13, with the latest defeat coming in a 2-0 loss to West Ham.

Speaking in an interview posted on Sky Sports’ official X page, Amorim stated, “It’s not on the players, it’s on me,” the former Sporting coach said.

He continued: “It’s really embarrassing to have just six wins in 25 games. It’s not about the way we play; it’s the way we face competition.”

Recall that Amorim joined United after a successful coaching stint with Sporting, where he won  five major trophies .However, the Portuguese manager has had a worse record than sacked coach Erik ten Hag. In fact, if Amorim had managed the team from the beginning of the season, the Red Devils would have been relegated.

United are currently 16th on the table and are set to finish with fewer than 58 points—the total accumulated in their worst-ever Premier League season.

They currently have 39 points with just two matches to go, the next being against Chelsea. However, things have been different for them in the Europa League. Under Ten Hag, United had a series of draws in the competition, but under Amorim, they have won most of their important games, remaining unbeaten and are set to face Spurs in the Europa League final on Wednesday, the 21st, in Bilbao.

Interestingly, Spurs are one of the only sides worse than United in the Premier League. Both teams narrowly escaped relegation due to Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton being on even worse runs.

Despite Amorim’s poor Premier League performance, United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has revealed that he would back the manager.

With criticisms rising, Manchester United fans are likely to give Amorim one transfer window to bring in his players and attempt a squad rebuild before passing judgment. If United’s problems persist next season, calls for his dismissal are expected to intensify.

However, Amorim has mentioned that if things don’t improve, he  would step down.
