Real Madrid are dealing with another set of injuries, with Vinicius Jr. and Lucas Vázquez injured during their 4-3 loss to Barcelona yesterday.
The club announced this on their social media. Vini was diagnosed with a sprain, as revealed by the medical team; however, no timeframe was provided for his recovery.
“Following tests carried out today on Vinicius Jr. by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left ankle. His recovery will be monitored.”
As for Vázquez, here is his report:
“Following tests carried out today on Lucas Vázquez by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the pectineus muscle in his left thigh. His recovery will be monitored.”
While Madrid lost the El Clásico, Vini Jr., despite missing a few chances, made two assists to Mbappé. As for Vázquez, his case was different. Primarily a right winger, Vázquez was deployed as a right-back. This is not the first time he has played in defense, even before this season. However, this season, he simply hasn't performed well in that role. He lost the ball in the buildup to three of Barcelona’s goals, leading to widespread criticism.
The long list of Madrid’s injured players includes:
Éder Militão
David Alaba
Antonio Rüdiger
Ferland Mendy
Lucas Vázquez
Eduardo Camavinga
Vinicius Jr.
Real Madrid now has only three available defenders for their next game against Mallorca, with Tchouaméni suspended—unless, of course, they bring up players from La Fábrica to make their debut.
Madrid has just three games remaining: against Mallorca, Sevilla, and Real Sociedad.
With the way things look, La Liga is likely lost already. Barcelona just needs to win their next game to secure the title.
Real Madrid will now need to focus on getting their injured players ready for the Club World Cup under Xabi Alonso.
Fortunately, the Club World Cup allows a window for the temporary transfer of players solely for the competition, so Madrid may consider bringing in reinforcements to make up for the huge deficiency in their squad.
