PDP Set to Inaugurate New BoT Members Today in Abuja
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will, on Monday, May 12, 2025, officially inaugurate new members of its Board of Trustees (BoT) at its national secretariat in Abuja.
This follows a circular issued by the party’s Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, which was made available to The PUNCH. The document, dated May 11, indicated that the event would take place by 11 a.m. at the NEC Hall, Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5.
“In line with the above subject, the PDP Board of Trustees has fixed the inauguration of new members for Monday,” the notice read in part.
The move comes months after concerns were raised about inactivity among BoT members. Reports earlier this year revealed that over 80 out of 127 members had stopped participating in party activities.
According to the PDP Constitution, the BoT plays an advisory role and is expected to act as the moral backbone of the party. Its responsibilities include offering guidance on party direction, resolving disputes, and upholding the PDP’s image. Membership is drawn from former presidents, vice presidents, past and present national leaders, and founding party members across all zones.
But internal issues persist. The current BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has been at the centre of a leadership standoff, especially regarding the office of the National Secretary. Some members say he lacks the numbers to push his agenda.
On Sunday, a separate high-level meeting was held at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. Governors from Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Adamawa, Zamfara, and Enugu states were in attendance.
The session, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, aimed at addressing internal party rifts. Also present were top PDP figures like Umar Damagum, Ahmed Makarfi, Bukola Saraki, Aminu Tambuwal, and several ex-governors.
Discussions focused on the upcoming NEC meeting scheduled for May 27, the National Convention, and how to handle growing tension over key party positions.
