Africa football Legend, Former Asante Kotoko & Black Stars captain Wilberforce Mfum is reported dead. He was 89. RIP Legend. The man who brought much joy to the lover of football is gone and would be remembered for all the good things he has done for Ghana.
ANALYSIS OF EVIDENCE
It must be noted that Article 35(9) (a)-(d) mandates the Disciplinary Committee to consider the
Statement and/or Evidence of the parties and deliver judgement immediately. Similarly, Article
35(9)(c) provides that the Committee shall consider the merits of the case and deliver its decision
in any given case even if a party fails, neglects or refuses to file a Statement of Defence within
the stipulated time.
The Committee was informed by Great Nanas FC from its Statement of Case that Dixcove FC
“walked off the field making the continuation of the match difficult hence causing the abrupt end
to the game.”
On the other hand, Dixcove SC in its Statement of Defence denied the allegation levelled against
it. The club stated that “On the 99th minute according to our time, the supporters of the home
team invaded the pitch and attacked and assaulted 2 of our players and an official making it difficult for the match to continue. During the invasion, the referee and his 2 assistants left the field of play and when we tried to follow suit, we were prevented by the supporters from leaving the field. Looking at the tensed situation, we couldn’t risk the lives of our players and officials by continuing to play after almost 30 minutes of the hold up when the referee and his assistants returned and wanted to continue with the match. Dixcove SC were ushered out of the field through another exit by the Match Commissioner (MC) and some security personnel.”
The Committee after considering the Referee and Match Commissioner’s reports as well as independent investigations and noted that the match ended abruptly.
FINDINGS
1. The pitch was invaded by Ben Adams, Francis Davids, Benjamin Appiah and John Eshun who are officials of Dixcove SC.
2. Dixcove SC caused the Abrupt end of the match.
DECISION
The Committee holds Dixcove SC responsible for the abrupt end of the match contrary to
Articles 33(1)(a)(b) and 34(1)(a) of the Regulations.
The Committee further holds Dixcove SC responsible for the misconduct of their supporters contrary to Articles 34(1)(a) and (b) of the Regulations.
