In a bid to reinforce its commitment to good governance, the Ghanaian government has pledged to tackle corruption and eliminate waste. But as recent scandals unfold, many are left questioning whether these promises are just another exercise in political rhetoric.

The Minister for Health is currently reviewing the Auditor General’s report on COVID-19 expenditures, while the Minister of Finance has launched an inquiry into the collapse of indigenous banks and financial institutions. According to government sources, those found guilty of wrongdoing will be held accountable, and lessons will be learned from the fallout. Yet, the public remains skeptical.

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition is also under scrutiny as investigations into the Petroleum Development Agreement (PDA) scandal continue. Meanwhile, Deloitte and Touche is conducting an independent audit of the controversial National Cathedral Project, a venture already mired in allegations of mismanagement and financial irregularities.

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition is under intense scrutiny as investigations into the Petroleum Development Agreement (PDA) scandal continue to unfold. The scandal has raised questions about the transparency of certain energy contracts, with critics accusing officials of awarding lucrative deals to politically connected entities. Meanwhile, Deloitte and Touche has been tasked with conducting an independent audit of the controversial National Cathedral Project, a venture that has already been mired in allegations of financial mismanagement, inflated costs, and questionable procurement practices.

In addition to these ongoing investigations, on April 30, 2025, the Attorney General filed eleven charges against a former National Signals Bureau director over corruption and other offenses. Further charges related to the Accra Skytrain and the National Service Goose Name Scandal are also expected to be filed in the Accra High Court.

While the Office of the Presidential Advisor on Corruption is actively receiving complaints and preparing reports for the Attorney General, many Ghanaians are left wondering: Is this newfound commitment to fighting corruption truly about accountability, or is it just another political maneuver to save face?

With thousands of complaints pouring in and the government vowing to prosecute both past and present offenders, the question remains – will these measures result in tangible change, or will they merely serve as another chapter in the ongoing saga of Ghana’s battle against corruption?
