In a bold move to drive Nigeria’s digital growth and industrial innovation, Huawei Nigeria unveiled a cutting-edge Innovation Centre during the inaugural edition of Huawei Day Nigeria. The three-day event, themed “Accelerating Industrial Intelligence,” marks a pivotal moment in Huawei’s 25-year journey in the country.
At the event, Huawei Nigeria CEO Chris Lu reiterated the company’s longstanding dedication to Nigeria’s technological progress. “Since 1999, Huawei has worked closely with partners and industry stakeholders to build Nigeria’s digital foundation. With Huawei Day Nigeria 2025, we begin the next phase—ushering in an era powered by artificial intelligence,” Lu stated.
Lu highlighted that technologies such as connectivity, cloud computing, AI, and solar energy are now essential for modern business sustainability. He also announced the launch of Nigeria’s first hyper-scale local cloud by Huawei—a significant step toward data localisation and reduced service latency. “AI isn’t the future—it’s already here. To build intelligent industries, we need a robust, AI-ready digital infrastructure that includes widespread connectivity, cloud computing, and advanced data centres,” he emphasized.
The newly launched Innovation Centre aims to serve as a collaborative hub where industry experts, partners, and tech professionals can test and co-develop new technologies across sectors like government, finance, education, and energy.
Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, lauded Huawei’s efforts in promoting innovation. “This centre allows us to shape our technological future with global leaders. It positions Nigeria not just as a tech consumer, but a co-creator in the digital age,” Tijani said.
Also speaking at the event, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, praised Huawei’s impact on Nigeria’s ICT landscape. He described the launch of Huawei’s local cloud as a “first-of-its-kind” development that addresses the nation’s data sovereignty concerns.
Huawei’s President of Data Storage Product Line, Dr. Peter Zhou, showcased how AI is transforming industries such as fintech and transportation. He introduced Huawei’s latest AI-ready infrastructure, including smart computing systems and the AI Data Lake, capable of processing the vast data demands of the modern digital economy.
