Mikel Arteta: Arsenal are the better team in the Champions League this season
Mikel Arteta who has failed to win a silverware for his side for 5 seasons in a row, has come out to talk about they being the better side in the 2024/25 Champions league. Arteta has failed Arsenal and their fans.
Arsenal became 3rd in the Uefa Champions League, league phase which is the new format. Liverpool became first and got eliminated by PSG who played in the playoffs. Inter Milan were 2nd but are in the finals.
The champions league is not how you start, but is about how you finish. Mikel Arteta took his side to beat PSV Eindhoven in the round of 16, and face spanish giants, Real Madrid in the Quarter finals and defeated them by 5-1 aggregate.
After beating Madrid, they were the favorites to win the Uefa Champions League despite their English Premier league form and loosing the Fa Cup and the EFL cup. After they faced Paris Saint-Germain in the Semi Finals, they host them in the first leg at the Emirates with Dembele scoring the only goal to give PSG a 1-0 win over Arsenal.
Arteta never understood how they conceded a goal under 5 minutes so they went back to Parc des Princes, the home ground of Paris Saint-Germain to face them. Fabian Ruiz scored the first goal and gave PSG the lead and then before full time, the scoreline became 2-1 with a 3-1 aggregate.
Mikel Arteta after full time said to the media that;
“I do NOT think there’s been a BETTER TEAM than us in Champions League so far”.
Arsenal hopes of winning the quadruple has moved to, treble, to double, to single and now, "TROPHYLESS ".
Arsenal spent over £200 million this summer and still went trophyless with their rivals, Liverpool who won the Premier league, Manchester City who are in the Fa Cup final, Manchester United and Tottenham who are likely to meet in the Uefa Europa League final and Chelsea who are on their way to the Uefa Conference League finals. Should Arsenal sack Mikel Arteta?
