Sammy Gyamfi Defends Mahama’s Supreme Court Nomination, Slams NPP for Hypocrisy.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, has launched a scathing critique of the opposition  New Patriotic Party (NPP), accusing them of hypocrisy and double standards in their criticism of President  John Dramani Mahama’s  recent Supreme Court nominations.

In a strong defense of President Mahama’s appointment of Justice Senyo Dzamefe to the Supreme Court, Mr. Gyamfi argued that the NPP’s objections are baseless and reveal a pattern of politically motivated inconsistency in the party’s stance on judicial appointments.

“The problem with the NPP is the duplicity and hypocrisy they continue to display. That is what I find nauseating in all these discussions,” he remarked during an appearance on Joy News on Saturday, May 3.

Mr. Gyamfi highlighted Justice Dzamefe’s long and distinguished service in the legal field as a compelling reason for his elevation to the apex court. He contrasted Dzamefe’s steady progression through the judicial ranks with what he described as the fast-tracked promotions of less qualified individuals under the previous NPP administration.

“Justice Senyo Dzamefe has served with distinction. He was a State Attorney from 1984 to 1987, a member of the Regional Tribunal from 1989 to 1996, a Circuit Court Judge from 1996 to 2000, a High Court Judge from 2000 to 2010, and a Court of Appeal Judge from 2010 to 2025,” Mr. Gyamfi outlined.

Despite this extensive experience, he expressed disappointment that those who previously supported politically biased judicial promotions are now condemning a well-earned nomination.

“These same NPP people are calling President Mahama’s appointment sacrilegious. Yet, we all witnessed how they refused to promote competent judges to the Supreme Court and instead elevated their juniors—some by as many as 20 years—just for political convenience,” he asserted.

Calling the current nominations a step toward fairness, Mr. Gyamfi defended President Mahama’s decisions as part of a broader effort to restore integrity to the judiciary.

“What we are doing now is correcting past wrongs. We are delivering justice to those who were unfairly sidelined,” he emphasized.

He concluded with a defiant message:

“You can burn the sea if you don’t like it. President Mahama will not be remote-controlled by you.”
