The University for Development Studies (UDS) has successfully hosted the 7th edition of its prestigious Africa Leadership Lecture Series in the Northern Region of Ghana. This annual event, which aims to foster dialogue on leadership and development across the continent, featured a historic guest speaker: Her Royal Highness Queen Nozizwe Mulela. She is the wife of His Majesty King Misuzulu KaZwelithini of the Zulu Nation in South Africa and also serves as the Managing Director of Eswatini Bank in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Her Royal Highness made history as the first woman ever invited to speak at the UDS Africa Leadership Lecture Series since its inception. Her lecture, delivered under the theme “Redefining Leadership for Africa’s Future: Ethics and Transformation,” focused on the urgent need for ethical and transformational leadership across Africa.
In her speech, Queen Nozizwe Mulela emphasized that Africa is at a crucial point in its development journey and needs leaders who are guided by integrity, selflessness, and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of the people. She pointed out that one of the major challenges the continent faces is a deficit in ethical leadership—not only within Africa but also globally. She called on African leaders to rise to the occasion, place the interests of the people above personal gain, and lead with a sense of responsibility and accountability.
“This is a continent blessed with abundant resources and potential,” she said. “What we need now are leaders who can harness these advantages to drive inclusive growth and development for all Africans.”
The event was also graced by the Vice-Chancellor of UDS, Professor Seidu Al-Hassan, who expressed profound appreciation to Queen Nozizwe Mulela for accepting the university’s invitation. He acknowledged the importance of her message, stating, “Your Majesty’s stirring words called us to action—to uphold integrity, champion inclusivity, and reimagine leadership for a new Africa. Your message echoes deeply in the hearts of every listener, and for that, we are forever grateful.”
The lecture series continues to serve as a platform for thought leaders across the continent to share ideas and inspire positive change in African leadership.
