The Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, popularly known as the Old Bailey, has fixed June 3, 2025, for the trial of Marcus Monzo, a 37-year-old Spanish-Brazilian man accused of murdering 14-year-old Nigerian student, Daniel Anjorin. The incident took place on April 30, 2024, in Hainault, North-East London, when Anjorin was reportedly attacked with two Japanese swords while walking to school. Monzo allegedly slashed the teenager in the chest and neck, resulting in fatal injuries.

Monzo, who describes himself as a “mystic musician,” faces multiple charges connected to a violent 20-minute rampage during which four others were also injured. The victims include Donato Iwule, Sindy Arias, Henry Polania, and Yasmin Mechem-Whitfield. He is further accused of wounding Police Inspector Moloy Campbell with intent during the incident.

Appearing before the court on Friday, Monzo pleaded not guilty to eight of the 10 charges against him. However, he admitted to possessing two offensive weapons: a katana and a tanto katana sword. He also denied charges of aggravated burglary and carrying a bladed article, specifically a kitchen knife.

Reports from UK media, such as the Daily Mail, detail how Monzo allegedly began his attack by crashing a van into a fence on Laing Close, hitting pedestrian Donato Iwule in the process. He was then seen wielding swords and attacking multiple people on the street, including Anjorin, who later died in the hospital from his wounds.

The tragic death of Daniel Anjorin has drawn significant public attention, particularly within the Nigerian and broader African communities in the UK. The upcoming trial is expected to be closely followed as Monzo faces a range of serious charges involving murder, attempted murder, and possession of dangerous weapons.

Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the attack as the community mourns the loss of the young Nigerian student. The case raises renewed concerns about public safety and the growing menace of knife-related violence in London.
