Rodrygo officially joined Real Madrid in June 2019, making his debut on September 25 of the same year. Impressively, he scored his first La Liga goal within a minute of entering the match.
So far, he has spent nearly six years at Madrid, making 267 appearances, scoring 68 goals, and providing 50 assists across all competitions.
Naturally a left winger (LW) at Santos, Rodrygo has mostly been deployed as a right winger (RW) at Real Madrid—mainly because Vini Jr occupies the left flank. Interestingly, their new signing, Kylian Mbappé, is also naturally a left winger but is currently being deployed as a striker. So technically, Real Madrid’s front three consists of three natural left wingers—not bad.
Rodrygo played a major role in Real Madrid’s 2021/22 UEFA Champions League campaign, particularly with his clutch goals against Manchester City in the semi-finals. He scored twice in the 90th and 91st minutes to level the tie on aggregate, pushing the game to extra time, where Madrid eventually won and advanced to the final.
But sincerely, Rodrygo’s name has been disrespected lately—not just by rival fans but by some Real Madrid fans as well. Sure, he has been underperforming over the past two months, but the team's overall form hasn’t been outstanding either. Ok let's be real: players deserve criticism when they repeatedly underperform. Football is a continuous sport—unless you retire, you're always proving yourself. Even retired players are constantly being compared to the new generation.
But does that mean Rodrygo should be pushed out of the club? I understand fans want the best for their team and can’t afford to be emotional. Still, it feels like Rodrygo has never truly been appreciated—even when he was producing solid numbers. In fact, he was often overshadowed by Vini jr, who got most of the hype. That’s not to say Viní isn’t good—he is—but Rodrygo has also been underrated and underappreciated by some.
Recently, Rodrygo was left out of the squad to face Celta Vigo, which has further fueled speculations that Real Madrid might be open to selling him. While these are just rumors for now, the question remains: Do you see Rodrygo leaving Real Madrid?
Personally, I believe he’s a talented player. And whether he stays at Madrid or moves elsewhere, he can still shine—if given the right platform
