Atalanta Back on Track with a 1-0 Win Against AC Milan as Serie A Title Race Heats Up

After a dip in form, Atalanta have returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over AC Milan, thanks to a decisive goal from Anderson. The win ended their three-match losing streak. Nigerian stars Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze also featured for their respective teams, with Lookman starting for Atalanta while Chukwueze came off the bench for AC Milan.

Meanwhile, the Serie A title race has taken a dramatic turn following Inter Milan’s surprise loss to fourth-placed Bologna. Inter were set to settle for a draw, which would have put them one point ahead of third-placed Napoli. However, a last-minute goal from Bologna shattered their plans. As a result, both Inter Milan and Napoli now sit on 71 points with a few matches remaining.

In some leagues, goal difference is used to separate teams level on points. However, Serie A uses head-to-head records instead. The head-to-head encounters between Inter and Napoli this season both ended in draws, meaning they're still tied in that respect. According to league rules, if two teams finish on the same points and are tied on head-to-head, a playoff match will be held to determine the Scudetto winner. The team with the superior goal difference would host the decider.

Currently, Inter Milan have a better goal difference than Napoli, which gives them a slight edge should it come down to a playoff.

What’s Next for Inter?

With a Champions League semi-final clash against Barcelona on the horizon, Inter must remain focused. Barcelona is a formidable opponent, and any lapse in concentration could be costly.

Domestically, Inter must avoid dropping any more points if they hope to secure the title. Fortunately, their squad depth could prove crucial in navigating the remaining fixtures, although football often remains unpredictable.

Napoli's Advantage

Napoli, on the other hand, are not involved in any European competitions and can focus solely on the league. With only one match per week, their players will enjoy more rest and recovery time—an advantage that could help them maintain form and keep pressure on Inter in the title race.
