As we celebrate Easter today, April 20th, let us take a moment to reflect on the true significance of this sacred holiday.
Easter is not just about eating rice, enjoying chicken or turkey, or taking advantage of Easter sales where prices are slashed. It’s much more than that.
The Bible says in Isaiah 53:5 (KJV):
"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."
Easter is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after His crucifixion. On Good Friday, He was beaten, mocked, humiliated, spat on, and ultimately crucified on the cross of Calvary—all for you and me.
Before He gave up the ghost, He declared, "It is finished"—signifying that He had defeated death and conquered sin.
And indeed, it was finished when He rose on the third day—Easter Sunday.
There’s a song that says:
"Death shall no longer hold me captive."
I truly love that song.
Jesus took all our pain upon Himself when He chose to carry the cross, battered and broken. But on the third day, He arose—a new and glorious being. This mirrors the message in 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV):
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
Just as Jesus became new—free from the scars of sin—so are we made new in Him. We become sons and daughters of God, sharing in the inheritance of His kingdom.
As the Bible says in Romans 6:9 (KJV):
"Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him."
Easter is more than just a holiday. It is a day to remember, a day to reflect. A day when Jesus Christ rose—and through Him, we too are reborn.
Happy Sunday and a blessed Easter to you!
