Florence Eshalomi, a Nigerian-British politician, has been appointed as the United Kingdomβs trade envoy to Nigeria. Eshalomi confirmed the appointment on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, becoming the second Nigerian to hold the position. The first was Helen Grant, who served as an MP from 2010 to 2014.
Eshalomi expressed her excitement about the role, saying, βIt is an honour to have been appointed as the United Kingdomβs Trade Envoy to Nigeria.β She added, βIβm looking forward to building on my close ties with Nigeria to strengthen the economic relationship between our two great nations and to explore shared growth opportunities.β
The announcement was made by Jonathan Reynolds, the UKβs Business and Trade Secretary, who emphasized that the appointment was part of efforts to attract investment into the UK and stimulate economic growth. βIβve launched a new team of Trade Envoys, who will use their experience and expertise to unlock new markets for British businesses and drive economic growth,β Reynolds stated.
Eshalomi, 44, is the Member of Parliament for Vauxhall and Camberwell Green and holds a BA in Political and International Studies with Law from Middlesex University.
