Radio personality Philip Appiah Kubi, better known as Roman Fada, has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with being referred to as “honorable.” Following the rejection of his bid to contest as the Ghana Freedom Party’s (GFP) flagbearer for the 2024 elections, he posted a video on social media requesting to be addressed as “His Excellency” instead. According to him, the title “honorable” is reserved for members of parliament and assembly members, which does not align with the level he believes he has attained. He pointed out that addressing him by this title diminishes his stature, given his participation in a presidential race alongside prominent figures like Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and former President John Mahama. Roman Fada emphasized that if people cannot use “His Excellency,” they should stick to calling him by his name.

The rejection of Roman Fada’s nomination was announced on November 12, 2024, by Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa. The decision was based on discrepancies in his submission that the GFP failed to rectify despite being given an opportunity to do so. This disqualification marked the end of his journey as a presidential candidate for the upcoming elections. Despite the setback, Roman Fada has remained vocal about his growth since entering politics, noting improvements in his English proficiency and public speaking skills. He continues to present himself as a serious political figure and has made it clear that he will not accept any title he deems unworthy of his status or political ambitions.

Roman Fada’s statement has stirred mixed reactions among Ghanaians. Some see his insistence on being addressed as “His Excellency” as humorous, while others perceive it as evidence of his confidence and determination. His remarks also highlight the broader conversation about the significance of political titles in Ghana and how they reflect on an individual’s standing in public life. Although his presidential ambitions have been cut short for now, Roman Fada remains committed to preserving the image he has built in the political arena. By rejecting the title of “honorable,” he is reinforcing his belief that his aspirations go beyond local-level leadership, aiming for the highest office in the land.
