Hearts of Oak made a strong comeback in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League (GHPL) with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Berekum Chelsea during their Matchday 14 clash at the University of Ghana Stadium. The win was a much-needed morale boost for the Phobians, who suffered a disappointing defeat against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko in their previous game. Ramzy Yussif opened the scoring in the 16th minute, giving Hearts an early lead that they carried into halftime. This early advantage set the tone for a commanding performance from the Accra-based club.

The second half saw Hearts of Oak maintain their dominance as Hamza Issah doubled their lead with a well-taken goal in the 50th minute. Despite their commanding start, Berekum Chelsea refused to back down and managed to pull one back through Emmanuel Sarpong in the 62nd minute, momentarily narrowing the deficit. However, any hopes of a Chelsea comeback were short-lived. Kwabena Boateng capitalized on a brilliant assist from Hamza Issah to seal the win for the Phobians with an 82nd-minute goal. Chelsea’s performance was further hindered by the absence of their head coach, Samuel Boadu, who was away with the Black Galaxies preparing for a crucial CHAN qualifier against Nigeria.

With this victory, Hearts of Oak climbed to 5th place on the league table, accumulating 22 points. The result signals a potential turnaround in their season as they aim to secure a top spot in the league standings. Up next, the Phobians are set to face relegation-threatened Accra Lions on December 25, where they will look to build on this positive momentum. This triumph not only restored confidence among the players and fans but also underscored the team's resilience after a challenging start to the season. Hearts of Oak’s solid display serves as a reminder of their ability to bounce back and remain competitive in the ongoing GHPL campaign.
