The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has voiced its concerns over the delayed announcement of results by Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) following the country’s general elections held on Saturday. Addressing the media on Sunday, December 8, the party’s chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, blamed the delays for rising tensions and outbreaks of violence in certain parts of the country. According to him, the delay is not only frustrating for citizens but is also creating a dangerous void that fosters anxiety, misinformation, and unrest, particularly among the youth. He called on the EC to act swiftly to declare the official results and restore calm, as both the NDC and their opponents, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have already completed their own collation of results.

Nketia, popularly known as "General Mosquito," criticized the EC for failing to fulfill its mandate as the official body responsible for overseeing and declaring the election results. He expressed concerns that the commission's delay was unnecessary since the major political parties had completed their independent tallies. He warned that the prolonged silence was fueling discontent and sparking reactions among the youth, a situation he described as dangerous. "The youth of this country have started reacting, and that is a dangerous sign," he emphasized. He reiterated that the only way to maintain peace and order was for the EC to expedite the release of the results and eliminate the growing vacuum of uncertainty.

The situation has further been complicated by incidents of unrest in some regions, such as the vandalism of an Electoral Commission office in Damango and chaotic scenes at collation centers, including allegations of vote tampering at Ablekuma North. In response, the EC has urged Ghanaians to remain patient while they finalize the collation process at both constituency and national levels. Meanwhile, civil society groups, including the Peace Council, have also appealed for calm, praising political leaders for maintaining peace thus far. However, frustrations remain high among NDC supporters, who are increasingly demanding transparency and accountability in the electoral process. As the nation awaits the official results, the call for expedited action from the EC has become a critical demand to ensure stability and trust in Ghana’s democratic process.
