Haruna Iddrisu, a Member of Parliament for Tamale South, has called on Ghanaians to support John Dramani Mahama in the ongoing 2024 general elections. As the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, Mahama’s leadership is seen as crucial to revitalizing Ghana’s struggling economy and tackling governance issues. Iddrisu, a former Minority Leader in Parliament, emphasized the importance of a leadership change to restore confidence in the country’s democratic and economic systems. He made these comments after casting his vote and stressed that the nation needs Mahama’s return to reset the state of Ghana, ensuring a healthier democracy, stronger economy, and better governance for the future.

Iddrisu expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, describing it as poor and deeply unsatisfactory in managing the key sectors of the economy. He pointed out that under the NPP, Ghanaians have suffered unexplained hardships due to reckless policies and the abuse of public structures. The MP criticized the NPP’s handling of the economy and called for a transformative change. Iddrisu argued that a vote for Mahama is not just a vote for a new leadership but a choice for a reset in Ghana’s economic direction, ensuring sustainable development and ending the current administration’s missteps.

As the election day unfolds, Iddrisu’s plea for Ghanaians to back Mahama reflects a wider sentiment among the opposition, which sees Mahama’s experience and approach as essential for navigating the country through its economic challenges. With the NDC flagbearer promising to address issues such as inflation, job creation, and fiscal management, Iddrisu’s endorsement highlights the need for a leadership that understands and can effectively respond to the economic needs of the country. As the polls close and sorting and counting begin, Ghanaians will have to decide whether to continue with the current administration’s policies or take a new path under John Mahama to rebuild and reset the nation’s economy and governance systems.
