As Ghanaians prepare to cast their votes in the highly anticipated 2024 general elections, Sammy Awuku, Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), has made an impassioned appeal for voters to prioritize hope, progress, and their destinies. Speaking at the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) final rally at the University of Ghana Sports Park on December 5, Awuku drew a stark contrast between the futures offered by the two leading political parties, urging Ghanaians to choose wisely.

For Awuku, this election is not just a routine exercise of democracy but a defining moment for the nation. He described the election as a choice between hope and despair, the future and the past, and a clear opportunity for citizens to secure their destinies. He confidently positioned the NPP and its Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the beacon of hope for a better Ghana.

“The election before us is an election between hope and hopelessness. It’s a contest between the future and the past. The election before us is a destiny vote,” Awuku declared, drawing cheers from the crowd.

Awuku emphasized that under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, the NPP is committed to delivering impactful policies and programs aimed at job creation, financial stability, and improving the free Senior High School (SHS) initiative. He described these as critical areas that would benefit every Ghanaian household and urged citizens not to take them for granted.

“The free SHS, job creation, and money in the pockets of the youth are number one on the ballot paper. Don’t play with your destiny, vote wisely,” Awuku urged, highlighting the importance of every single vote in shaping Ghana's future.

In a spirited segment of his speech, Awuku took aim at campaign promises he described as unrealistic or trivial, contrasting them with the NPP’s clear vision and track record. “This election is not about a fake promise of offering you three chicks or running shifts at a nightclub, no, not at all. This election is about your future,” he said.

The rally, a culmination of weeks of nationwide campaigning, showcased the unity and resolve of the NPP. Thousands of enthusiastic supporters adorned in party colors gathered to hear their leaders and reaffirm their commitment to the party’s agenda. The electrifying atmosphere was a testament to the party’s widespread support and determination to secure victory in the upcoming polls.

Awuku’s speech reinforced the NPP’s campaign message that Ghana needs a forward-thinking leader with a proven track record of delivering results. Dr. Bawumia’s achievements as Vice President, particularly in the areas of digitalization and economic reforms, were highlighted as evidence of his readiness to lead.

Under Dr. Bawumia’s guidance, Ghana has seen groundbreaking advancements in digital infrastructure, including the introduction of the Ghana Card, mobile money interoperability, and the digitization of government services. These initiatives have not only streamlined governance but also boosted Ghana’s global reputation as a leader in digital transformation.

Awuku urged voters to reflect on these achievements and envision the additional progress that could be achieved under a Bawumia-led administration. He stressed that this is not the time to gamble with Ghana’s future, but rather a time to consolidate the gains made and build on them.

As the rally continued, several other NPP leaders echoed Awuku’s sentiments, urging Ghanaians to reject empty promises and divisive rhetoric. Instead, they called for unity and a collective effort to propel Ghana forward.

Meanwhile, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) held its final rally at Zurak Park in Madina, presenting their own vision for Ghana’s future. The contrasting messages from the two major parties underline the high stakes of the upcoming election, with both sides vying to win over undecided voters.

With less than 24 hours until polls open, the atmosphere across the country is charged with anticipation and determination. Ghanaians are aware that the choice they make on Election Day will have far-reaching implications for the nation’s trajectory.

Sammy Awuku’s rallying call for Ghanaians to choose hope over despair and focus on long-term progress underscores the critical nature of this election. For Awuku and the NPP, the message is clear: the future of Ghana is in the hands of its people, and it is their duty to make a choice that secures a brighter tomorrow.

As citizens prepare to head to the polls, the nation watches with bated breath, hopeful that the outcome will reflect the aspirations of a people united in their desire for progress and prosperity.
