As Ghana braces for its pivotal presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7, 2024, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is radiating confidence, fueled by bold predictions and strategic campaigning. Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, the Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore and the Middle-Belt Campaign Coordinator for the Vice President and NPP flagbearer, has forecasted a commanding performance in the upcoming polls.

In a media interaction in Kumasi during the climax of the NPP’s campaign in the middle belt zone, Dr. Ayew Afriyie confidently stated that the NPP is poised to win a total of 99 parliamentary seats across six middle-belt regions. He highlighted the party’s determination to clinch 15 new constituencies, marking a significant leap in the party’s influence in the region.

“We have laid the groundwork meticulously, and all necessary structures are in place to secure a resounding victory for the NPP in both the presidential and parliamentary elections,” he assured.

The six regions identified in the middle-belt strategy include Ashanti, Eastern, Bono East, Ahafo, Western North, and Bono. Dr. Ayew Afriyie emphasized that the party’s strategic focus on these regions stems from their pivotal role in determining the electoral outcome.

He explained that the NPP’s optimism is anchored on five major indicators, including the party’s plans to overturn key constituencies traditionally held by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Among the constituencies targeted is Tain, the stronghold of the NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

Dr. Ayew Afriyie declared that the NPP’s extensive campaign in the six regions has solidified its base and swayed undecided voters. “We are confident that our efforts have yielded the desired results. By our projections, the NPP will secure 99 seats in the middle belt alone, cementing our dominance in this critical electoral zone,” he stated.

Reflecting on the challenges faced during the campaign period, Dr. Ayew Afriyie applauded the resilience of the NPP’s flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and the entire campaign team. Despite logistical hurdles and political tensions, the team has worked tirelessly to engage voters and convey the party’s vision for Ghana’s future.

He credited the NPP’s “time-tested policies and programs” for resonating with the electorate. According to him, these policies, such as the Free SHS program and digitization initiatives championed by Dr. Bawumia, stand in stark contrast to what he described as the opposition’s lack of innovative solutions.

The MP further assured voters of their safety during the electoral process, highlighting the robust security arrangements made by the government. “We want all Ghanaians, especially those in the middle belt regions, to know that their safety is our priority. Voters can go to their polling stations and cast their ballots for the NPP without fear of intimidation,” he said.

Beyond parliamentary aspirations, the NPP is targeting a decisive victory in the presidential election. Dr. Ayew Afriyie projected that the party would secure over 51% of the total votes, underscoring the widespread appeal of its policies and leadership.

As election day approaches, the NPP’s confidence underscores the high stakes and intense competition in Ghana’s political landscape. Dr. Ayew Afriyie’s predictions, while ambitious, reflect the party’s belief in its ability to mobilize support and deliver results.

Ghanaians will soon decide whether the NPP’s optimism translates into reality or if the opposition NDC can counter their momentum. In the meantime, the political atmosphere remains charged with anticipation, as citizens prepare to exercise their democratic rights in shaping the nation’s future.
